Top 10 Foods Highest in Vitamin E

March 30th, 2012

Vitamin E is amazing for your skin amongst many other things! Check out this great list of the top-10 foods containing this miracle vitamin.

Top 10 Foods Highest in Vitamin EVitamin E is a group of 8 fat-soluble vitamins which help prevent oxidative stress to the body, and other vitamins within the body. Adequate amounts of vitamin E can help protect against heart disease, cancer, and age related eye damage (macular degeneration). Conversely, too much vitamin E from supplements can lead to excessive bleeding, or hemorrhaging. Vitamin E foods, like the ones listed below, are considered to be safe and healthy. The current RDA for vitamin E is 20mg. Below is a list of foods high in vitamin E.

#1: Sunflower Seeds
A great snack on the go, or a great garnish on salads and soups, sunflower seeds provide 36.6mg (222% RDA) of vitamin E in a 100g serving, or 36.5mg (310% RDA) per cup.

#2: Paprika and Red Chili Powder
It is nice to know you are able to add pepper to a dish whether mild (paprika) or spicy (red chili powder) and get the same amount of vitamin E, around 30mg (199% RDA) per 100g serving, or 2.1mg (14% RDA) in a single tablespoon.

#3: Almonds
Almonds are best as a snack in raw whole form, but can also be found as almond butter and almond milk. Almonds provide 26.2mg (175% RDA) of vitamin E in a 100g serving, 37.5mg (250% RDA) per cup, and 0.3mg (2% RDA) of vitamin E in an almond.

#4: Pine Nuts
Known as a key component in pesto, pine nuts are also great on their own, or added to a fruit salad. They provide 9.3mg (62% RDA) of vitamin-E in a 100g serving, 12.6mg (84% RDA) per cup, and 0.2mg (1% RDA) in 10 nuts.

#5: Peanuts
Most common in butter form, peanuts also make a great dry roasted unsalted snack, chop up a few as a garnish to just about anything. A 100g serving will provide 6.9mg (46% RDA) of vitamin E. That is 10mg (67% RDA) per cup, and 2mg (13% RDA) per ounce.

#6: Dried Herbs (Basil And Oregano)
Basil and Oregano go a long way in pasta sauce and pizzas, but are also great sprinkled on top of salads and sandwiches. A 100g serving will provide 7.38mg (50% RDA) of vitamin E, which is 0.2mg (1% RDA) per teaspoon. Other dried herbs high in vitamin E include Sage, Thyme, Parsley, and Cumin.

#7: Dried Apricots
Most common as a snack, dried apricots can also be chopped and thrown into a fruit salad. A good source of fiber and many other vitamins, apricots also provide 4.3mg (29% RDA) of vitamin E per 100g serving, or 5.6mg (38% RDA) per cup, and 0.2mg (2% RDA) of vitamin E in half an apricot.

#8: Pickled Green Olives
Olives have no end to culinary use, great in pasta sauce, pizzas, salads, or alone with bread, they will provide 3.81mg (25% RDA) of vitamin E in a 100g serving, 1.1mg (7% RDA) per ounce (about 14 olives).

#9: Cooked Spinach
Cooked spinach is great in stews, lasagnas, or as a side all by itself. It will provide 3.5mg (24% RDA) of vitamin E in a 100g serving, 6.7mg (44% RDA) per cup.

#10: Cooked Taro Root
Inedible raw, taro is best baked, boiled, or incorporated into a bread. Worth trying as a substitute for potato, taro root gives 2.9mg (10% RDA) of vitamin E in a 100g serving, 3.9mg (26% RDA) in 1 cup sliced. It can be found in your local Asia market if not the grocery store.

Waxing for Men at Rio Wax Salon in Phoenix | Scottsdale

Waxing for Men

Waxing For Men

Waxing For Men

Get completely bare silky skin!  Waxing is known as one of the best hair removal method after laser hair removal. The results of waxing for men typically last 4 to 6 weeks, but doing the summer months when we go through such hot weather in Phoenix Arizona the results may last 3 to 4 weeks.

When the hair does grow back it is softer and thinner.  Waxing removes hair from the root while shaving and creams get rid of hair from the surface, causing hair to grow back quicker and leave stubble or bumps.  Wax also helps to exfoliate the skin, leaving the skin notably smoother. This is because it eliminates all the lifeless skin cells on the top layer of the skin.

You can wax hair with at least 2-3 week hair growth. Honestly, the longer the better for your first wax. It is VERY important to have enough hair growth when you come for your waxing appointment. This allows the wax to grab the hairs easily. If your hair is too short, we may need to reschedule your appointment.

Men should think about waxing their chest hair. A waxed chest will help you look clean, more muscular, youthful and better put together. It’s more esthetically pleasing to have a fresh, hairless chest instead of a hairy chest. This is especially true throughout the hot Phoenix, Arizona summer months.

There are some men in Arizona that feel it’s attractive to display back hair. We are glad that not all men in Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale feel the same about showing off back hair and most of them will choose to wax or use laser hair removal to get rid of their unwanted back, shoulder or chest hair. Getting a full body waxing or a back wax, chest wax, shoulder wax or legs wax will make you feel more confident and comfortable about your body.

When looking around for the best place in town to get waxing for men, look no further then Rio Wax Salon.  Rio Wax Salon  owner Dannielli Marcelino was voted best in waxing by Arizona Republic Newspaper.  She has also been Featured on Phoenix FOX 10 News, Good Morning Arizona and Phoenix Magazine as Arizona’s hair removal expert!

Wear Green Eye Shadow for St. Patrick’s Day

March 15th, 2012

Wear green eye shadow this St. Patrick’s Day!  It’s the perfect grown-up way to celebrate. Not sure how?  Here’s how to apply and choose the perfect shade of green eye shadow for any eye color.

Green Eyes - Green EyeshadowGreen Eyes – Green Eye Shadow

To make your eyes pop, you want to look for any shade of green eye shadow that contrasts with your eye color. If your eyes are light, go with dark olive; if they’re darker, try a jade shade.  Suddenly Slimmer’s exclusive LD mineral Makeup offers many beautiful shades of green for around $20.

For daytime, bring green in as your eyeliner.  Choose an eye pencil in olive or jade, and trace it along top lashes. (Don’t worry about getting in perfect.) Using a flat brush, drag the color out and slightly up into a slight cat eye to awaken eyes and highlight your iris.

For nighttime, your green eye shadow will come in handy.  Line the inner rims of top and bottom lashes with a brown pencil, and then smudge it along the top lash line for a smoky look. Apply a shimmery green cream shadow on lids. For extra sparkle, place a white highlighter below brows.

Brown Eyes - Green Eye ShadowBrown Eyes – Green Eye Shadow

Brown eyes look best in a blend of blue-green eye shadow. The blue tint will actually bring out rich, orangey tones.  If your brown eyes have some hazel to them, pick a yellow-green.

Using a flat shadow brush, blend a layer of emerald green eye shadow from your lash line to the crease.  Add a highlighter from your crease to your brow and blend like crazy! Simple as that!

To sex it up, find a palette of medium and dark blue-greens. Apply the deepest green eye shadow to your crease. Here’s the trick- smudge the medium shade on outer corners only. Finish the look off with black liquid liner.

Blue Eyes - Green Eye ShadowBlue Eyes – Green Eye Shadow

Blue beauties look best in dark hunter-green eye shadow.  The contrast actually brightens up dark blue eyes.  If you have lighter blue eyes, choose a mossy green.

Apply a hunger or moss eye pencil to your lower and upper lash line. Finish the look off with brown mascara on top lashes for pop!

Blend a mossy or hunter green eye shadow all over your lid.  Take a cool, minty green eye shadow and apply it to your brow bone. Voila!

Best of luck to you!  Happy St. Patrick’s Day! XOXO

We would love to do a free makeup application with out exclusive mineral makeup line and show you personally how to wear your St. Patrick green eye shadow.  Give us a call 602-952-8446 to book a time.

How to Give Your Man a Makeover: Brows

February 17th, 2012
Men’s Grooming

Men’s Grooming

For some guys, brows are just those two things above their eyes that remain untouchable. For us girls, this can be a problem. Luckily for everyone, men’s grooming is on the rise, as is the amount of guys heading into salons to get their brows trimmed. A brow trim or clean-up not only makes your guy look more polished and better taken care of, it can also make him look more awake! We spoke with Dannielli Marcelino, director of Rio Wax Salon, to find out the best way to get your guy to the salon, and how to look after those brows.

Brow trimming and maintenance are becoming quite popular for men these days. Credit it to more competition in the workplace or the rise of the metro-sexual man, but guys are heading to the salon and not feeling embarrassed about it. “We have so many male customers now, and they’re not just coming in with their wives or girlfriends,” says Marcelino. “Men recognize that they need to look cleaner and well-maintained, especially as they’re competing with younger guys in the workplace who look sharper. Most guys get their brows done because they make them look a lot more awake.”

But what about those guys who don’t want to go anywhere near the salon? “You can’t make it seem like a big deal,” says Marcelino. “Act as if it’s nothing for a man to get his brows groomed, and point out the benefits of looking younger, more awake, and more approachable in the workplace.”

As for ongoing maintenance? “If a guy gets his brows done properly, he won’t need to brush them or apply gel to keep them in shape,” saysMarcelino. “It’s a simple procedure in the salon and then you forget about it! The worst thing is if a guy tries to pluck his own brows. Just don’t let your boyfriend do that himself.”

So, ladies, take it easy, don’t push your guy into something, and explain all the benefits in a logical manner. Just remember, it’s no big thing!

Want to impress this Valentine’s Day? Then, upgrade

February 6th, 2012

upgrade that spa package you were already thinking of getting for your significant other.

While a spa package of a facial and/or massage is always appreciated, it’s always nice to add something a little unexpected. For example, a vajazzeling or vattooing service that will certainly bring your V-day celebration to a titillating level! And what about a spa treatment that can make your woman’s décolleté always youthful-looking? With sun exposure and damage and other factors that can ruin the decollete’s delicate skin, this spa treatment will treat her just right. And you, too.

PHOENIX—When flowers aren’t enough, it’s always safe and a good idea to give the gift of relaxation to the one you love for Valentine’s Day. Many day spas in the Valley offer various Valentine’s Day spa packages that often include the usual pampering massage, rejuvenating facial and a mani-pedi to complete the deal. While the usual spa treatments are always appreciated by recipients, adding a little something unexpected to a spa package can possibly make your Valentine’s Day a little more titillating.

The Valley’s Queen of Waxing, Dannielli Marcelino, owner of Rio Wax Salon in Phoenix says that more and more clients are adding waxing services and spa treatments that specifically target certain areas of the body to enhance them.

“As Valentine’s Day approaches, we notice that a lot of clients purchase couple massage packages, or a facial and pampering massage combo for their significant others, but they also add something different. Men, for example, add a bikini or Brazilian waxing service for their women. And women, well, they add a little bling…for the enjoyment of their significant others, of course,” said Dannielli.

Vajazzeling and vattooing, the beauty trends of adding crystals or fake tattoos to showcase your nether regions, saw a surge in demand last year and the trend still continues. According to Dannielli, women ask for a vajazzaling or vattooing service to surprise their loved one during their intimate moments. The crystals or custom-designed fake tattoos are applied to lasered or waxed skin, and the application can last up to four weeks.
Some male clients add a Neck and Décolleté service to a spa package for the woman in their lives. This type of service concentrates on the neck and cleavage area, which are often neglected and become susceptible to wrinkles, sun and age spots and sagging.

“Men very well know that women are not fond of sagging skin because it really ages you. The neck & décolleté spa treatment is perfect for keeping that part of the body youthful-looking,” explains Dannielli. She adds that a more intense facial treatment, like the Glow & Go Peel, is also appreciated by both and women because its main goal is to repair sun damage with enzyme proteins. Both spa treatments are probably out of the ordinary, but very well appreciated by recipients.

“Recipients don’t ever expect ‘out-of-the-box’ kind of treatments,” said Dannielli. “However, if you give them something unexpected, like a vajazzeling or a vattooing session, it raises the game, and makes your Valentine’s Day celebration a little more special,” she added.

Fanny Facial

Bikini-and-Butt ‘Facials’ are Latest Spa Trend. As bikinis get tinier, women are exposing more flesh than ever before. But sometimes skin in those more intimate parts isn’t quite ready for a close-up.  Rio Wax Salon has just the treatment for wary beach goers: a bikini-and-bum facial. On gently cleansed skin, the technician first deeply exfoliates ingrown hairs and clogged follicles with crystal microdermabrasion. Skin is then steamed, ingrown hairs and acne are extracted, and a soothing organic mask is applied to close pores and balance the skin.

The mask is then cleaned off and a session of LED Light Therapy addresses sun and pigmentation spots: green light slows melanin production to stop pigmentation formation, blue light kills bacteria and acne, and yellow light detoxifies and replenishes cells.  60 Min $135.

When the bunny is gone, here’s your next chocolate move

April 25th, 2011

Rio Wax Salon in Phoenix offer Wild Berry Chocolate wax throughout spring and summer for a calorie-free chocolate fix.
PHOENIX—Alright,   you had Easter Sunday to get your chocolate fix. But now, may we suggest indulging in chocolate but of the calorie-free kind?
Rio Wax Salon is introducing their Wild Berry Chocolate wax, a hair removal treatment that smells so decadent and delicious you’ll forget you’re getting some hair waxed off. All throughout spring and summer, as more and more people are opting for less hair during the warmer months, Rio Wax Salon will be offering this rich-smelling and moisturizing chocolate-infused wax to their customers.
“This chocolate wax becomes hard when it gets in contact with the skin. It’s less painful and it even gets the stubborn little hairs,” explains Dannielli Marcelino, owner and manager of Rio Wax Salon, and also known as The Queen of Waxing.
According to Dannielli, customers love the wax because of its rich chocolate scent. Chocolate in general, stimulates endorphins, which gives the body and mind a pleasurable boost and brings happy feelings. The salon’s Wild Berry Chocolate wax actually contains serotonin, just like edible chocolate, that can fight depression.
“There are some clients who get a little giddy when they’re about to get a waxing treatment done. However, our Wild Berry Chocolate wax, for some reason, puts our clients at ease and actually makes them relax a little more,” Dannielli said.
Dannielli adds that the aroma of chocolate brings back fond memories of something good, something fun and something delicious.
The result?
“It’s almost a given that when a client of mine asks for our Wild Berry Chocolate wax, they have a smile on their face and our session is more relaxed and enjoyable,” Dannielli said.
Rio Wax Salon is located at 4151 N 32nd Street Phoenix, AZ 85018. Known for their hygiene, speed, quality and friendliness, the staff members at Rio Wax Salon are experts in waxing and other spa treatments. They treat you well, just like you area BFF. How to Keep Smooth Between Waxing Appointments

April 8th, 2011

How to keep smooth between waxes

Learn how to maintain your bikini line in between waxes with this tip from skin and body expert Dannielli Marcelino, owner of  Rio Wax Salon.

Question: What should I do in between wax appointments when the hair is visible but it’s too soon to wax?

In between wax appointments you can pluck out dark hairs with tweezers or trim longer hairs with a scissor. To create the illusion of a flawless bikini line use a sunless tanner which will help the hair blend in with your skin. Also, I recommend using a growth inhibiting lotion (such as Rio Smooth Cream or Nufree Finipil Cream) so your hair grows in slower and finer.

Dannielli Marcelino is the owner of Rio Wax Salon, the upscale Arizona medi-spa/salon known for its cutting-edge, results-oriented treatments.
